Note: This is the same chemistry class I taught Fall 2020.

In this at-home hands-on lab class, students will explore the basics of chemistry using a kit provided by me.  Students will create atom and molecule models, learn about the periodic table and subatomic particles, perform a simple experiment using the scientific method, distinguish between compounds/elements/mixtures, learn about acids and bases by testing the pH of various solutions, balance chemical equations using Skittles, make elephant toothpaste, mix chemicals to create endothermic and exothermic reactions, explore the density of liquids and solids, extract DNA, and create paperclip polymers and slime.  I will provide detailed lab setup instructions so students can set up the equipment before our Zoom class starts.  The kit will include most supplies needed for class except for test chemicals/liquids, like hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, lemon juice, vinegar, laundry detergent, and dish soap, strawberries, and bowls/cups/measuring spoons and worksheets (see kit supply list for details).  Depending on your child's age and abilities, an adult may need to help with lab setup and during the lab.
