Stand-Alone Science Classes (Online Only) - November 10-December 10, 2020
Grades 4-8 (mature 3rd graders are welcome, too, but may need more parental involvement)
Students will learn about the structure of DNA by making a model using colored mini-marshmallows, toothpicks, and Red Vines. They will also extract DNA from fresh or frozen strawberries using dish soap, salt, and isopropyl alcohol.
Week 3: Flinkers (Dec. 1,2, or 3)
Students will design an object that neither floats or sinks and learn about buoyancy and density.
Week 4: Density of Liquids (Dec. 8, 9, or 10) (in progress 11/6/20)
Students will explore the density of different liquids and liquids of different temperatures.
- One-hour class (classes might go over one hour)
- Class fee: $16 per class
- Maximum class size is 12 students.
- Students will need to provide their own easily-obtained supplies and print worksheets from this website. All of the supplies are common household items or can be found at a supermarket. See detailed supply lists and setup instructions below.
- Students can sign up for one or more stand-alone classes.
